I want to share my experience of fishing for pike spots. When I was a novice spinningist, my fishing looked something like this: I took my favorite wobbler (and before that a spinner), jumped into the boat and went around all my favorite places. And as it seemed to me, he caught quite well, and was very happy with his favorite bait.
По мере накопления опыта, начал замечать, что в весеннее время щука достаточно сильно концентрируется в отдельно взятых частях водоема. Мне удавалось с участка 20 квадратных метров ловить по 5 экземпляров сразу. Как выяснилось, хорошая, уловистая приманка очень даже часто "недобирает" щуку в таких вот местах. И тут нам помогает смена приманки другого типа.
Поиск таких мест я произвожу достаточно быстрыми джеркбейтами Strike Pro Big Bandit или Salmo Slider. Но после первой поклевки чаще всего меняю их на более спокойные приманки - неогруженную резину Strike Pro Pig Shad или воблеры Minnow (например Kosadaka ION 130f). После того как на более спокойные применки выходы закончились, завершаю облов снова активными джерками.

So, perch sites I divide them into three main types::
- Banks (Hills in the middle of the deep). Preferably, its size should be at least 100 square meters. meters, otherwise on such a bank of perch most likely will not be. We use a jig to pick up landfills here, both in the morning and in the evening. We throw the jar itself with perch wobblers only in the evening. In the morning on the wobbler bites on the bank are rare.
- Тростниковые острова и отмели рядом с ними. Идеально, когда от острова отходит площадка с небольшой глубиной, рядом с которой хорошие глубины. Идеальное время для ловли на воблер - вечернее время. В утреннее также можно ловить, но клев хуже. Также хороший вариант ловить на джиговые приманки, обкидывая свалы рядом с отмелью (утро или вечер).

Today we will talk about which wobblers are most effective and at what time of year. There are certain favorites like Major Craft Zonner Minnow or ZipBaits Orbit that work great any time of the year. But perhaps you have other models that are not inferior to them at certain times of the year. For example, Rapala RipStop is weak in the fall, but in the summer heat it is not inferior to the leaders at all.

When, where and what to catch trophy pike?

In the last ten years of fishing in Finland, the ice has never come down before the pike spawns. However, this year I will definitely try to catch another trophy before spawning.
In principle, you can catch a trophy pike throughout the year, but you need to understand that at different times you need to catch it in different ways. So, let's go through the whole season, using the example of the largest lake in Finland – Saimaa. The dates shown below can vary up to + / - a week, depending on the average temperature in spring.

April 15-May 1
Fishing in shallow water, in warm backwaters. We catch on floating baits, preferably jerkbaits from 12 cm and more, large minnow wobblers from 140 mm are also suitable. You can also try large unloaded tires.
1st – 20th
At this time, the chance of catching a trophy is much lower. Pike biting is sporadic and very sluggish. We catch it in the same place and in the same way.
May 20-June 1.
Отличный клев. Продолжаем лов на мелководье, но с каждым днем смещаемся к более глубоким местам – камышовым островам с глубиной у камыша примерно 2 метра, «банкам» - площадкам с глубиной до 3м посреди глубин, каменным грядам. Снасти те же.

In shallow water, the pike starts biting again, but mostly up to 2kg. I'm looking for a trophy pike at this time on a jig, on "landfills" near depths up to 12m.
September 1 – October 1.
Also a bad time for pike. Biting is very sluggish. Trophies are awarded exclusively for trolling.
October 1-before the ice.
Good time for pike starts again. Biting is episodic, but it can be very active. The problem is that pike at this time can be caught everywhere, and in shallow water and on the "bank" and on the ridges and at depths. And sometimes you can't hit the nail on the head. However, there are a few of my observations. On sunny days, it is better to catch pike in shallow water from lunch, when the water warms up a little. The rest of the time and on cloudy days, it is better to bite on the jig and trolling.
Differences and nuances of fishing in Finland and Russia
I would like to discuss the differences between Finnish and Russian reservoirs on the example of Ladoga and Saimaa. And the differences are very big. Especially if we are talking about the southern part of Ladoga, where there are endless reed fields, extensive shoals and sometimes the complete absence of serious changes in depth.

На Ладоге я про такие места не слышал. Подобные отличия сильно влияют на тактику ловли и в целом подход к рыбалке.
Fishing for coastal reeds and rafting with a water parachute downwind are popular in Ladoga. On the Saimaa, it is more likely to catch stone ridges and promising braids near the islands and jig in the depths. Only trolling is equally popular. First of all, Saimaa is rich in large perch, it is really significantly more than in Ladoga. The same can be said about bream, but it is almost not caught in Finland.
Another difference, in the warm season, the coastal pike is not larger than three kilograms, with rare exceptions, but on Ladoga there are large specimens in shallow water more often.

Jerks or wobblers. Part 2-ridges, banks
We continue the topic of comparing the catchability of wobblers and jerkbaits. As we found out in the first part devoted to shallow water, jerks quite compete with wobblers not only in terms of the size of caught specimens, but even in their number. Which is understandable, because for a large bait, during an active bite, the pike follows more willingly and from a greater distance.
Однако с каждым днем вода становилась теплей и щука постепенно смещается к глубинам и ловится уже у каменных гряд и тростника рядом с глубинами, а не в мелководных заводях. Мы продолжаили эксперимент, когда 2 рыбака с одной лодки ловили воблерами и джерками. И выяснилось, что с каждым днем эффективность воблеров становилась выше, по крайне мере по количеству поклевок. И с наступлением теплых летних дней, джерки "слабели" все сильней.

Некоторые рыболовы, однажды поймав на небольшую снасть крупную щуку, начинают считать, что размер приманки не влияет на желание рыбы ее схватить. Я считаю, что это справедливо, когда приманка проходит в непосредственной близости от хищника. Однако, в случае, если хищник находится на некотором расстоянии, желание хищника "напрячься" и рвануть за приманкой обусловлено ее размерами и "игрой".
Приведу простой пример. Ловля на воблеры типа "минноу" (130й размер), в основной массе в течении нескольких сезонов давала щук до 4-5 кг. Первый же сезон ловли на джерки, сразу принес поимку 9 киллограммовой красавицы.
